Revolutionizing Small Space Living with Tango

Ryszard Manczak's Multifunctional Pouf Tango: A Game-Changer in Furniture Design

As living spaces become increasingly smaller, innovative solutions are needed to maximize utility and comfort. Ryszard Manczak's multifunctional Tango pouf offers a versatile and eco-friendly solution, transforming from a pouf to a mattress, stool, or couch.

Driven by the need for a more economical approach to designing and utilizing limited living space, Manczak's Tango project is a response to the growing population and the shrinking living space. The Tango pouf, with its simple form, allows for convenient storage, transportation, and packaging, contributing to a lower waste in materials used in manufacturing.

The Tango pouf's unique properties lie in its transformative nature. Two poufs of the same dimensions can be transformed into a portable mattress, stool, or a couch, providing functional, mobile, and ecologic furniture. As the saying goes, "it takes two to tango," and in this case, two Tango poufs can create a multitude of furniture options.

The poufs are made of soft recycled foam or seagrass covered with a coconut layer, decorated with natural wool fabric in several colors. They offer the possibility of sitting, lying down, and sleeping, and are available in two versions for indoors and outdoors. The pouf's design is based on bionics, with the shape of triangles that occur at the appropriate stage of its growth, allowing for a mobile form that can be shaped according to the user's intention.

Creating the Tango pouf was not without its challenges. A prototype was made to determine the proportion, size, and the application of the relevant product density foam for sitting and lying down. A major challenge was to sew the cover in such a way that it can be freely pulled out from the inside of the foam for replacement or cleaning the fabric. A special triangular shape of zippers was designed to emphasize the character of the furniture, which further completed the shape of the triangle when its formed in the seat.

The Tango pouf has been recognized for its innovative design, winning the Silver A' Furniture Design Award in 2021. This award is given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that illustrate outstanding expertise and innovation. Tango's multifunctional pouf is indeed a game-changer in furniture design, offering a versatile solution for small space living.
